Shark Spotting Drone – Westpac Surf Rescue
Premier Mike Baird has declared a $250,000 helicopter-shaped shark spotting drone to be “the future of rescue” in NSW and predicted every surf club in the state could eventually have access to the technology to save lives. Mr Baird on Sunday launched the trial of an unmanned aerial vehicle, dubbed the “Little Ripper”, at Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter base at La Perouse.
The Little Ripper – which is being developed with Newcastle firm Skyline – can carry a “pod” tailor-made for rescue in marine, snow and on land which can be dropped to the person or people in distress.
